Structural feedback – BIG ideas

This feedback forum is for your magnificent ideas for Oasys Structural software: major new features, significant changes to existing functionality, – suggestions that will impact on our development plan. These will be considered and prioritized in consultation with the Regional Panel.

You have 20 votes to distribute as you wish. You can reallocate votes at any time. Votes are released back into your pool when an item is completed (or declined).

How can we improve Oasys Structural software in a BIG way?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

    • GSA response spectrum documentation

Better documentation of the code based RSA procedure: what results are scaled inside GSA, how factors are applied, how drifts are scaled internally, etc.

      • GSA doc of sign conventions

Clearer images (possibly located in the help files) showing the sign conventions of forces, stresses and deflections on all sides of a differential element for both global and cylindrical coordinates.

          • Oasys GSA - productivity

            - It was useful to have Nodes/Elements/Section library in a tab easy to access. Now if we want to access section properties, we need to go in data explorer/properties/section library (3 clicks).

            - In section library, it was great to see the section properties - so we can easily see the area and inertia of the section and see when we modify a section what is the impact on the area and inertia.

            - In the design layer, it was useful to have design properties like section library - so we could assign easily effective lengths to a group of…

            • GSA processing feedback

The program does not distinguish between “Not responding” because the program has failed and “Not responding” because the program is completing a large task (eg. Saving the model). It would be useful to know how long a particular task will take, similar to how Microsoft Explorer estimates the time to copy a model.

                • GSA design - Eurocodes

The elastic plastic ratio was used for BS. It enabled to restrain the maximum ratio between elastic and plastic capacity for the bending capacity of the section. When the ratio is set to 1, the section is designed with the elastic capacity.
This ratio is not taken into account anymore for Eurocodes. Hence, if a section is Class 1, it is automatically checked for bending with its plastic capacity.
However, some countries prefer to design the sections as Class 3 (elastic capacity) even though they are Class 1. So the elastic/plastic ratio option is convenient.
                  Is it possible to keep…

                  • Proposal to develop a postprocessor for design of reinforced concrete shell structures.

Proposal to develop a postprocessor for design of reinforced concrete shell structures.

This proposal is based on the work we are doing on the White Rose CGS.

I would be happy to share my insight which is based on working with such tools developed in Norway the last 30 years. In addition I have been instrumental in the newest development of OO’s postprocessor, which is capable of doing simple nonlinear analysis by feeding back the stiffness to the FEM software and doing interactions.

The development should be made in several steps:

                    1. A stand-alone program with user input only. This…
