This feedback forum is for your magnificent ideas for Oasys Structural software: major new features, significant changes to existing functionality, – suggestions that will impact on our development plan. These will be considered and prioritized in consultation with the Regional Panel.

  1. Assign colours to lists of elements.

    Allow users to assign colours to lists of elements. While this can be done manually, automating the process would help with:

    - Checking for elements left out of lists
    - Visualising loading plans
    - Differentiating building zones

  2. Provide results extraction that automatically combines modal results

    Provide the option of generating your own output response quantities as linear combinations of existing quantities. Then GSA could calculate the combined quantity for each mode and then perform the modal combination. This doesn't sound too difficult to implement, but would open up a lot of potential - e.g. utilisation checks for members could be done at the modal stage, and appropriately combined.

  3. CLT shells in GSA

    The modelling of Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) shells in GSA is very difficult, as you either have to separately calculate the orthotropic material properties or model each laminate as a separate shell.
    This CLT shell definition should either be in the form of a new element type, options to allow user-editing of the stiffness matrix, or a wizard to set up the shell and orthotropic material properties.

  6. Integration/Connection with Ideas Statica Steel Connection Software

    Develop a workflow between GSA and Ideas Statica Steel Connection Software. At the very least this will allow some time savings in getting the model forces out from GSA into a steel connection program, this will also allow more efficient designs through better feedback of how local joints are performing and how they then need to be modelled in the overall structural model.

  7. ADC batch reports

    Capability to compile a report in one go - I think currently engineers have to print diagrams and files one by one before combining them using Acrobat Pro or other PDF file manager software.

  8. AdSec explicit coefficients

    Include option to allow user to enter explicitly the coefficient values and factors for strain compatibility calculation so that we can modify to cater for different codes. Currently some of this is available in but it modifying the BS8110 parameters and thus cannot get rid of the “BS8110” when we print it out. This is with the hopes one day we can use ADsec for column calculation for…such as china projects, instead of relying on Xtract for that purpose.

  11. Turn line beam model into 2D element model

    It would be great to have a tool that can take a 2d line beam model of 1D elements and use the section properties to generate a 2D element shell model. This would be even more useful if:

    - PT Tendons could be built into the mesh (from the PT module being developed), so a 2D shell model can be generated straight from a 1D model with tendons attached.
    - If loading could be regenerated onto the 2D mesh, eg traffic loading
    - If parts of the model could be converted to 2D elements and parts left as 1D elements,…

    For all charts:
    * preserve data that defines chart for duration of view
    * allow chart view data to be edited, and view to be regenerated

  13. GSA partial derivative analysis

    Add to GSA the ability to efficiently calculate the sensitivity of an output to the inputs by directly accessing the stiffness matrix. This would allow the easy calculation of the partial derivatives of the a stress or a displacement with respect to changes in a member size and enable users to do far more sophisticated optimization analyses than is currently possible. The calculations are simple if access is available to the stiffness matrix at a basic level but are difficult without this access and hence why it is beneficial that the calculations are done within GSA.

  16. New types of loads to enable better (real) staged analysis in GSA

    To enable real (better) staged analysis, the following two new load types are needed: 1. pre-stress loads for spring elements, 2. out-of-fit of 2D elements at nodes (the equivalent beam loads are currently called distorsions). This needs to be implemented first before real staged analysis can be implemented. If this is implemented but real staged analysis is not, the real staged analysis can be realistically simulated by using current available form-finding analysis. Currently in GSA, real staged analysis can only be simulated for model without spring and 2D elements as these load types are not available to enable the transfer…
