  1. Node restraint definition by stage

    If node restraint can be associated to a specific stage it would make use of single model for multiple purposes much simpler. e.g. if you have a full building model you might want to analyse
    - whole building with diaphragms, cols and cores
    - just one floor and adjacent cols as mesh
    If node restraint were by stage this would be much easier.

  2. Improve RC Detailing links with Revit

    Would be great to include and extract accurate reinforcement detailing designs from GSA into Revit models for all structural elements, flat slabs being the biggest challenge. I appreciate the restrictions on placement of placing rebar within revit may be a problem at that end too but somehow finding a way to map reinforcement from GSA to Revit would improve efficiency in :
    - translating designs into published / buildable information.
    - reduce misinterpretation of design to detailing.
    - improve efficiency of production of rebar drawing and bending
    schedule information.
    This may even require a Cadtools add-in within Revit to transfer…

  3. GSA Save As with Specificed Results (COM)

    When using large GSA models it would be beneficial to be able to save selected results via COM API.

  4. Oasys GSA - productivity

    - It was useful to have Nodes/Elements/Section library in a tab easy to access. Now if we want to access section properties, we need to go in data explorer/properties/section library (3 clicks).

    - In section library, it was great to see the section properties - so we can easily see the area and inertia of the section and see when we modify a section what is the impact on the area and inertia.

    - In the design layer, it was useful to have design properties like section library - so we could assign easily effective lengths to a group of…

  5. AdSec SLS M-N plot for a given crack width to BS EN 1992-1-1:2004

    It would be beneficial to be able to plot SLS M-N diagram in AdSec for a given section and crack width. This would allow us to plot multiple points within one diagram (easy graphical representation) rather than inputting multiple load cases into AdSec (and having a tabular output only).

  6. GSA design - Eurocodes

    The elastic plastic ratio was used for BS. It enabled to restrain the maximum ratio between elastic and plastic capacity for the bending capacity of the section. When the ratio is set to 1, the section is designed with the elastic capacity.
    This ratio is not taken into account anymore for Eurocodes. Hence, if a section is Class 1, it is automatically checked for bending with its plastic capacity.
    However, some countries prefer to design the sections as Class 3 (elastic capacity) even though they are Class 1. So the elastic/plastic ratio option is convenient.

  7. Static Pushover Analysis

    The provision of Static Pushover analysis within GSA would help engineers in the design of structures subject to seismic loading, allowing inelastic response characteristics to develop in the model in a quick and manageable way without the need for heavy FEA.

  8. Integration/Connection with Ideas Statica Steel Connection Software

    Develop a workflow between GSA and Ideas Statica Steel Connection Software. At the very least this will allow some time savings in getting the model forces out from GSA into a steel connection program, this will also allow more efficient designs through better feedback of how local joints are performing and how they then need to be modelled in the overall structural model.

  9. GSA Convex Hull Envelopes

    Would it be possible to have GSA envelope a combination following a convex hull approach rather than get just max / minimum effects. The user would select any two of the load effects (most likely fx and myy or fz and mx) and the results would be the points which define the perimeter of all the permutations in the envelope.
    Each result point would have the other coexisting effects also output to assist with calculation.
    The results would simplify ADSEC NM checks and also cover the cases where the worst case is not a maximum or minimum of one effect…

  10. AdSec Batch Reports & Graphs

    AdSec can produce individual results for each section, but not for multiple sections simultaneously, nor can multiple graphs be extracted. It also means that even if a section is analysed the results are deleted as soon as we enter into another section. This makes extracting results a lot more long-winded than it should need to be. Ideally, all sections and cases could be analysed in one go and results could be extracted from all sections and analysis cases, so that one single report can be printed for submission. Thank you!

  11. Turn line beam model into 2D element model

    It would be great to have a tool that can take a 2d line beam model of 1D elements and use the section properties to generate a 2D element shell model. This would be even more useful if:

    - PT Tendons could be built into the mesh (from the PT module being developed), so a 2D shell model can be generated straight from a 1D model with tendons attached.
    - If loading could be regenerated onto the 2D mesh, eg traffic loading
    - If parts of the model could be converted to 2D elements and parts left as 1D elements,…

  12. Aluminium design in GSA Design Layer

    1) add code based design check (BS EN 1999) for aluminium in the design layer (just like the steel design).

    2) To introduce aluminium standard section (RHS, I beam, C channel, etc.) first

  14. GSA - Split 2D elements at existing nodes

    A command to split 2D elements if any extra nodes lie on its plane/edge to enable the connection between the extra nodes and the 2D element.

    Example: In the attached image, Element-1959 has two extra nodes- 3064 and 3160 lie on its edge. It would be useful to have a command to split element-1959 considering these extra nodes as part of the newly generated element topology.

  15. New types of loads to enable better (real) staged analysis in GSA

    To enable real (better) staged analysis, the following two new load types are needed: 1. pre-stress loads for spring elements, 2. out-of-fit of 2D elements at nodes (the equivalent beam loads are currently called distorsions). This needs to be implemented first before real staged analysis can be implemented. If this is implemented but real staged analysis is not, the real staged analysis can be realistically simulated by using current available form-finding analysis. Currently in GSA, real staged analysis can only be simulated for model without spring and 2D elements as these load types are not available to enable the transfer…

  16. SLS crack width limit reinforcement

    I would be very interested in a function similar to GSA’s RCslab, but which could be used to check SLS load combinations for specified limiting crack widths. This may be by “round-tripping” with ADSEC if necessary.

    We would probably need a way for ADSEC to disregard excessive crack widths that are reported at notional edges of wall / slab sections if a chosen bar pattern does not fit nicely with the standard typical metre width. I assume that the implementation would need more user input / interaction than RCslab.

  17. improve revit link

    The amount of processing needed on a GSA model of a slab and wall structure once it has been exported from Revit means that the models quickly diverge. The goal should be to maintain a single (BIM) model so that any changes in the geometry (Revit) model can be quickly exported to create a usable GSA model.

    Detailed notes from a GSA User (with no Revit experience) on the issues from a recent complex 3D model will be attached as a comment on this idea.

  18. RC design add in for Excel to access Adsec design capability

    Create an Excel Add In to access Adsec concrete design capability in a spreadsheet. (The steel one is fantastic)
    We all need bespoke design tools on occasion, and rather than creating new coding for design we should be able to access a well maintained database of RC design coding.
    (There is OvaSEA, but this is doubling up Arup resources to codify concrete design. Currently, it also does not access as many codes as Adsec)

  19. Clear Vision Needed for our Structural Software

    At the moment there appears to be a largely scattered approach, with feedback, requests, surveys, and "large project" requirements driving the development of features and functionality. The result of this is a scattered feature set and poor integration with the common structural design workflows that we use on daily basis. We are all filling in the gaps with workarounds, spreadsheets, scripts, and use of other software. As a firm we need to have a clear vision for our structural software suite.

  20. Make the FE meshing easier

    It seems the steps required to produce an FE mesh is more complicated then it should be (compared to other programs such as Midas and Lusas etc.). The user should be able to select a number of elements and nodes and within a few click or two pull up a dialog box, enter the mesh size etc. and then generate the mesh.
