  1. Update Embodied Carbon Figures in GSA - Tie into Arup Carbon Database (V db)

    The GSA sustainability impact contours can fill a (crucial) gap on a project between initial sizing & production of BIM models when we can then easily use more comprehensive tools such as Arup Carbon, however they are currently out-of-date. Article below sets out Arup Structure's overall strategy on embodied carbon tools.

    The idea that our Oasys products do (or more accurately did) ‘display environmental impacts, such as embodied carbon, in a similar manner to traditional structural parameters such as axial stress or deflections’ is a really powerful narrative of how embodied carbon can be part of the natural design…

  2. Include code compliant steel column design

    Currently the design for steel columns is carried out for the forces and moments resulting from the analysis. This does not capture all requirements from EC3 such as the nominal moments from the shear forces being applied 100mm from the column face. It would be very beneficial for our projects if GSA could provide the design including all necessary code checks and provide the calculations in a report format. This would avoid any post processing and increase efficiency in project delivery

  3. Improve compos API to cover all functionality

    Compos API currently only allows results to be extracted.
    The only way to modify the compos file is by saving the file as text file or csv and then manipulating this file before reopening in compos.
    For automated processes it would be better to be able to drive compos in its entirety through an API.

  4. Separate Licenses for Design Codes and Materials to make licenses cheaper for Smaller Companies

    If Oasys Adsec can separate the licenses for different materials and codes so that users can only use and pay for what they need (similar to Bentley's system), that would make it more feasible for companies to provide a license for each employee. This also makes it feasible for smaller companies to use Oasys software.

  5. Make GSA Buildings more of a building modelling tool

    Allow for storeys to be isolated and worked with individually (I think that the current "Views" and "Curr. Grid" approach is confusing and doesn't isolate levels properly. Similarly allow for views on gridlines or other defined vertical sections or sloped surfaces.
    Allow for .dwgs or .dxfs to be imported only a level or a section to be used as an underlay to compare or trace structure. This will help with line loads for walls for example.
    The automatic mesh gen should include the shape of the columns on a floor slab to create rigid column/slab connections based on actual column…

  9. GSS 2nd order analysis (matrix method not GSRelax)

    a proper 2nd order analysis with matrix rather than GSRelax. This would be much faster than GSRelax. It would mean no need to magnify moments during design.

  10. option to make analysis tasks from combinations

    Combinations and permutations are a powerful tool.

    I have a model with compression only springs, so I cannot use superpostition and can't really use the combinations option. I am having to build every permutation and loadcase factor into a task individually. I have about a 1000 after simplfiying. It is quite painful.

    An option to push a combination of perumtations into a solid set of tasks that allows non-lienar elments to be worked with easily would be nice.

  11. Tabulated Verbose Steel Design Output

    Currently a steel design output views only produce tabulated results at member level (i.e. one row per member with utilizations only). It would be very useful if you had a form of output which would be one row per case X subspan and three columns per calculation namely the effect (e.g. M.Ed,y) the resistance (e.g. M.Rd,y) and the utilization. Such a table would be very useful for post-analysis.

  12. Node restraint definition by stage

    If node restraint can be associated to a specific stage it would make use of single model for multiple purposes much simpler. e.g. if you have a full building model you might want to analyse
    - whole building with diaphragms, cols and cores
    - just one floor and adjacent cols as mesh
    If node restraint were by stage this would be much easier.

  13. GSA 10.0.36 - Allow lists in the Section Pool entry of the Sections Tables

    Allow a list of section pool numbers (e.g. "1 3 5 to 10") to be entered in the Section Pool entry in Section Tables. This would minimize having to repeat section types in section tables.

  14. GSA Convex Hull Envelopes

    Would it be possible to have GSA envelope a combination following a convex hull approach rather than get just max / minimum effects. The user would select any two of the load effects (most likely fx and myy or fz and mx) and the results would be the points which define the perimeter of all the permutations in the envelope.
    Each result point would have the other coexisting effects also output to assist with calculation.
    The results would simplify ADSEC NM checks and also cover the cases where the worst case is not a maximum or minimum of one effect…

  15. AdSec SLS M-N plot for a given crack width to BS EN 1992-1-1:2004

    It would be beneficial to be able to plot SLS M-N diagram in AdSec for a given section and crack width. This would allow us to plot multiple points within one diagram (easy graphical representation) rather than inputting multiple load cases into AdSec (and having a tabular output only).

  16. Improve RC Detailing links with Revit

    Would be great to include and extract accurate reinforcement detailing designs from GSA into Revit models for all structural elements, flat slabs being the biggest challenge. I appreciate the restrictions on placement of placing rebar within revit may be a problem at that end too but somehow finding a way to map reinforcement from GSA to Revit would improve efficiency in :
    - translating designs into published / buildable information.
    - reduce misinterpretation of design to detailing.
    - improve efficiency of production of rebar drawing and bending
    schedule information.
    This may even require a Cadtools add-in within Revit to transfer…

  17. AdSec Batch Reports & Graphs

    AdSec can produce individual results for each section, but not for multiple sections simultaneously, nor can multiple graphs be extracted. It also means that even if a section is analysed the results are deleted as soon as we enter into another section. This makes extracting results a lot more long-winded than it should need to be. Ideally, all sections and cases could be analysed in one go and results could be extracted from all sections and analysis cases, so that one single report can be printed for submission. Thank you!

  18. Integration/Connection with Ideas Statica Steel Connection Software

    Develop a workflow between GSA and Ideas Statica Steel Connection Software. At the very least this will allow some time savings in getting the model forces out from GSA into a steel connection program, this will also allow more efficient designs through better feedback of how local joints are performing and how they then need to be modelled in the overall structural model.

  19. Turn line beam model into 2D element model

    It would be great to have a tool that can take a 2d line beam model of 1D elements and use the section properties to generate a 2D element shell model. This would be even more useful if:


    • PT Tendons could be built into the mesh (from the PT module being developed), so a 2D shell model can be generated straight from a 1D model with tendons attached.

    • If loading could be regenerated onto the 2D mesh, eg traffic loading

    • If parts of the model could be converted to 2D elements and parts left as 1D elements, to allow the…

  20. Better Staged analysis including locked in stresses and time dependent effects

    Improve the analysis stages so that the software can:
    - Lock in stresses and carry these forward to stages (similar to Midas)
    - Allow loads to be applied at a construction stage that do not then lock in / affect the time dependent effects (eg wind on a construction stage)
    - Allow simple plotting / output of results at each stage
    - Take account of time dependent effects in staging (creep, shrinkage, etc)
